New Mills - Buxworth circular walk
We took walk 29 from Walk the Waterways Around Manchester though we skipped Buxworth and Whalley Bridge, to reduce the length of the walk, but it was still about 6 miles. It briefly followed the river, then turned up hill at the 1627 Goytside Farm. The view to the right is of Beard Hall Farm, looking back on our tracks. This was the view over our shoulders as we ate our picnic. See Flickr for a photo from an adjacent field.
At the far end of the walk, we saw Bugsworth basin, originally the terminus of the High Peak Canal and the interchange with the High Peak rail which used to transport 600 tonnes of limestone and lime a day.
Below is a view from the canal, near the end of the walk, back across to Beard Hall Farm.
