Nile cruise

Into Africa
We took a weeks cruise on the Nile, starting at Esna and sailing down to Aswan and back again.
We saw an awful lot: the Colossi of Memnon; the Valley of the Kings: the Valley of the Queens; the Tomb of Hatshepsut; the Temple of Horus, Edfu; Kom Ombo; Philae; Aswan Dam; quarry, Aswan; Abu Simbel; Kitchener Island; Karnak; and Esna temple.
Kom Ombo viewed from our boatWhile we loved all that culture, neither Lan nor I felt comfortable on an orgainsed tour. We were coached to the site, lectured on its history, let loose for a while, then back to the boat where there was nothing to do but laze away the rest of the day. Neither of us are sun bathers, especially since I got skin cancer, so it was with some relief when we came back. In fact was still light headed from the gastro interitis I contracted on the final days. Almost all the passengers were struck down for several days. Lan was one of the few to emeged unscathed.
Bill in front of Abu SimbelWe are both glad to have seen the sights, but I think we have done Egypt now. We saw no pyramids, but it was always the temples and tombs which I was more interested in seeing.
